Dr. Jennifer Hoang strives to deliver excellent dental care to each of her patients. For her, the best part about being a dentist is the intertwining of art, science, and communication that’s necessary to provide quality care. She enjoys forming trusting relationships with her patients as she improves their oral health and enhances their smiles.
Dr. Hoang's journey to becoming a dentist started off with much fear and anxiety. As a child, she had a love for candy and not brushing/flossing her teeth. Many cavities ensued. She did not understand what dentists did nor the importance of oral hygiene. It was while attending Debakey High School for Health Professions that her fear of the dentist was replaced with understanding and curiosity, which led her to deciding she wanted to be a dentist. Dr. Hoang went on to attend the University of St. Thomas at Houston where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Following college, she attended the University of Texas School of Dentistry and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery. During dental school, Dr. Hoang was awarded the Academy of Operative Dentistry Outstanding Achievement and Dentsply Merit Award in Removable Prosthodontics. Dr. Hoang is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. A lifelong learner, Dr. Hoang continues to improve her skill set and stay updated with advancements in dentistry through continuing education and seminars.
When not taking care of her patients, Dr. Hoang enjoys cooking, embroidering, and hiking. She is married to her high school sweetheart.
Dr. Magruder grew up locally in Dickinson, Texas and received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University. He went on to receive his DDS at UT Health Science Center- San Antonio. He is very detail oriented regarding his dental work (his assistants would say a little OCD) and strives to provide his patients with Dentistry of the absolute highest precision and quality; dentistry that is built to last. Dr. Magruder invests a lot of his time reading dental literature and attending continuing education courses in order to stay on the cutting edge in dentistry. He has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and is working toward earning accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr. Magruder genuinely cares for each of his patients and treats everyone like family. As a direct descendent of General John B. Magruder, Dr. Magruder discovered that he has an interesting historical connection to the island. General John B. Magruder was a Confederate Civil War General who took back control of Galveston Island from the Union Army during the Civil War in 1863.
When Dr. Magruder is not busy in the office perfecting your smile, he enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his wife Sonia, baby boy Benjamin, and Labrador Boss. You may also find him chasing speckled trout and redfish in the Galveston Bay complex or Laguna Madre.
Dr. Sonia H. Magruder was born and raised in El Salvador. She moved to Houston, TX in 2006 to attend college where she graduated Valedictorian from the University of Houston with a Bachelors in Biology in 2011. Dr. Magruder spent two summers working at Brigham and Women’s hospital/Harvard Medical School, where she helped conduct research in the field of molecular and cell biology.
She then pursued her D.D.S. at The University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, TX where she was awarded the prestigious William S. Kramer Award of Excellence. She then completed 2 more years of additional training and obtained her certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, TX. This program is considered to be one of the best and most sought after Orthodontic programs in the country. Dr. Magruder’s master thesis studied the genes involved in dental agenesis. Dr. Magruder is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and the Ninth District Dental Society. In her free time, Sonia and Jeremy like to cook, travel and hang out with their baby boy, Benjamin and sweet labrador retriever, Boss.
