Cleanings

Professional cleanings by a dental hygienist remove plaque and mineralized plaque called tartar that can sometimes be very difficult to remove at home with normal brushing and flossing, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. It is recommended you go in for a cleaning at least once every six months.  Routine cleanings will help prevent “gum disease” or periodontal disease.  If periodontal disease does develop a “deep cleaning” will become necessary.  Cleanings will also remove some stains caused by tea, coffee, or smoking.
